The very first brand that turned a classic into an EV, was JAGUAR. This beautiful E-type was baptized Concept Zero and hit the roads in 2017. Since then, many other brands have followed. Take a look at this Opel Manta GSe or Hyundai Heritage Series Pony.

What is an electric conversion?

The process of converting a vintage car into an EV is obviously radical. Besides the petrol tank, the engine is also removed: immediately the two heaviest components of a classic car. The transmission can also be removed, but that is not absolutely necessary. If you choose to keep it, the interior of the car will also be closer to the original. But it is perfectly possible to omit both the transmission itself, and the gear lever in the interior.

The combustion engine and petrol tank will be replaced by an electric motor and batteries. In doing so, it is of course very important to take into account the original total weight of the car and the ideal weight distribution. If the mass is not properly distributed, it will have a negative impact on the car's handling and safety. The number of battery units used determines the driving range.

To connect the original part of the car to the new drivetrain, it is necessary to design and develop a connecting piece, which also has to find its place in the car.

Precisely because the whole transformation process is so radical - almost the entire car has to be dismantled - it is advisable to combine it with a (total) renovation.
